Daniel Boone Regional Library Workers United

Dear colleagues,

We are excited to share our intent to form a union at the Daniel Boone Regional Library as Daniel Boone Regional Library Workers United.

As a diverse workforce comprised of part-time and full-time staff, librarians and facility workers at multiple locations, we are proud to announce that we have already achieved overwhelming majority support across departments.

We are forming our union because we are proud of the work we do each day, and we want to see the library and our communities thrive. To do that, we need:

  • Equitable pay, parental and sick leave, and affordable healthcare and benefits
  • Professional and interdepartmental development, and opportunity for career advancement for all employees
  • Safety, security, and healthy practices at our workplace that protect both our physical and mental well-being

The past two years have been extraordinarily difficult, with COVID-19 bringing on additional challenges. We have witnessed co-workers and patrons get harassed, and we have felt the impact of high turnover and unsafe working conditions.

As a result, in late 2021 a small group of co-workers met to discuss the challenges and risks of working as frontline staff during the pandemic. That conversation brought us to where we are today in our effort to unionize the library. Our actions and stories strengthen our collective voice.

Whether you have worked at DBRL for 3 months or 30 years, we need everyone’s voices to be part of the conversation moving forward. Some of you may have already spoken to a co-worker about joining our union. If you have not yet heard from us, we would love to connect with you at your earliest convenience.

It takes all of us to build a powerful union. We are strongest when we work together.

Join us in leading the library to a place where our actions reflect our values and staff feel safe and supported. The first step is signing a union card today.
